Sunday Meditations

Jul 29, 10:32 PM by Jonathan Camenisch

I’m scribbling these thoughts in a notebook. Ah, good old pencil and paper. How inefficient! But I don’t want to be efficient right now. No, no! I can be efficient tomorrow and the next day.

Today’s Sunday! It’s the Lord’s day. It’s my Sabbath, my rest day. And unlike all the other days, today I can get away from the labor and the striving of the week. And for me right now, one thing that means is getting away from computers.

Computers! those wonderful, efficient things that serve me so well, yet tyrannize me too. In mere instants they give me what I want—information, sights, sounds, tasks, accomplishments, entertainment. And then they lure me to more. There’s always more! More to do, more to discover, more to experience.

But today I seek something different than all the other days. Forget the doing and accomplishing, and the dazzling sights and sounds. Give me quiet, rest, peace.

God has given that rest, and He’s protected it well. He didn’t just suggest that I rest—He knew I never would. He said, “Stop your working, and that’s an order! Enough of your bustling about! Come, sit down, let me speak to you; I have good words for you, words of kindness, words of peace, words of comfort. Come, I have spread a table for you. Let us have a meal together.”

Ah, how could I refuse such an invitation? How in the world do I ever refuse it?

Adding accents to the living room

Jun 19, 06:16 PM by Rebecca

Everything in our living room is pretty much earth tone colors. I have been trying to decide what color to accent with. We have this plaid chair that was given to us. Not my favorite color—green with some orange-ish and yellow stripes.

A couple weeks ago a girl from church came over to helped me with wedding flowers. As she was leaving I asked her thoughts, because she has done much interior design work. She suggested that I use the terracotta color of the tile in our entry and the similar color in the plaid chair. So now I have terracotta/rust/orange accent pillow, chairs and candles on my shelves (which you can’t see in the pictures.

The pillows in the pictures look more red than rust. I am pleased with how it turned out although I would have never thought of those colors on my own.

Oh, and once I made the pillows we realized that they match the rust color that runs through the marble in our coffee table.
