Recommended Free Software

This list is first for my own use—so all the links are in one place when I have to set up a computer. However, I’ve inserted explanatory notes for my friends, so you can refer to it as a list of recommended free software.
Check it out for tools that might be of use to you, and do let me know if you think I should add/change anything. As time goes on, I’ll generally keep the list up to date when I learn about new alternatives or change my mind about old ones.
