Sugar Cookies

Neither Jonathan nor I were big fans of sugar cookies—until we tasted these! Thanks to Patty Rhoads for passing this recipe on from Christa Jantz (and for baking these treats for us on more than one occasion).

Cookies

Ingredients

1 1/2 cups sugar
1 cup butter
3/4 cup sour cream
2 eggs
3 ts. almond extract
1 ts. vanilla extract
4 1/3 cups flour
1 ts. baking powder
1/2 ts. salt
1ts. baking soda

Directions

  1. Beat sugar in large bowl with butter until fluffy.
  2. Add sour cream, eggs, and extracts; beat until smooth.
  3. Add dry ingredients; beat until blended.
  4. Divide into 4 balls. Chill 3 hours.
  5. Roll out 1/4 inch think and cut out shapes.
  6. Bake at 375º for 7-8 minutes or until lightly browned.

Makes about 3 dozen

Icing

Ingredients

1/4 cup butter
1/2 ts. salt
1 ts. vanilla extract
1 ts. almond extract
3 1/2 cups powdered sugar
1/4 cup milk

Directions

Mix 1 cup powdered sugar with the butter, salt, and extracts. Alternately mix in small amounts of milk and powdered sugar until finished.
